Drabble: Security

Written for the primeval100 drabble challenge 224: "Why didn't you tell me?"

Title: Security
Author: Athene
Fandom: Primeval
Characters: Jess, Becker (Jess/Becker implied)
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Spoilers: Big spoilers for 5.4
Challenge: “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Word count: 100
Disclaimer: Not mine. ITV and Impossible Pictures own them.

“Why didn’t you tell me? I need to know about potential security issues.”

“Becker, since when has an allergy been a security issue?”

“Since you nearly died yesterday!”

Jess sighed. It had been sweet at first. Now his behaviour was bordering on overprotective. And slightly patronising.

“But I didn’t. I’m fine.”

“That’s not the point, Jessica!”

“So what is the point, Captain?” Jess finally snapped.

Becker gaped at her for a full ten seconds before he pulled himself together.

“Never mind,” he muttered, avoiding her glare.

As he walked away, Jess could have sworn she heard the words, ‘security stuff’.

I can see Jess hating being patronised but I'm slightly on Becker's side here. Nearly dying is a big deal. Very believable argument.

thanks. They've both got a point - it's not really a 'security issue', but you can't blame him for being worried.

I'm with Becker! I couldn't believe she'd left her stuff in the car ...

Yes, not the smartest of moves on Jess' part, but I suspect Becker might not be overreacting quite so much if it had been Abby or Emily!

Yep, I think Becker is right.
deinonychus_1 From: deinonychus_1 Date: August 22nd, 2011 09:09 pm (UTC) (Link)
He has a point, but he's definitely going about it in a very Becker-ish way, which is not heping matters!

I'm with Becker too. You need to tell people about bad allergies.

I suspect the medical staff at the ARC did know about it, but of course all of them left when it went into lockdown (you'd think at least one medically trained person would stay onsite during that sort of emergency situation, really... but no doubt if they did they'd be wearing red shirts!).

LOL!! Aw. Poor souls. Becks needs to lighten up, but he's so adorable.

hee thanks. He is being a little overprotective, bless him.

(and you might be interested to know I'm working on another drabble for this prompt, featuring an old favourite slash pairing I've been neglecting recently. Now I've just got to edit it down to 100 words before tomorrow night...)

Becker's right of course, but he could have gone about it better ;)

well, precisely! Sensible communication isn't really his strong point, especially not when it comes to Jess. Thanks :-)

Working in a place that can go on lockdown and prevent you from accessing other locations, I agree with Becker that it is a security issue and she should carry her epipen at all times...but then we wouldn't have had the fun B-story. Great drabble.
deinonychus_1 From: deinonychus_1 Date: August 23rd, 2011 07:20 pm (UTC) (Link)
thanks. If she had the epipen then it wouldn't have been a problem, but it was kind a freak set of circumstances.

Honestly Becker, that's no way to get inside her knickers. *g*

lol, definitely not!

I totally agree with Jess. Becker definitely has a valid point, but why would she think it would be a security risk, you know?
I have a severe allergy to bees and the only time I ever mention it is when I actually SEE a bee! lol Otherwise, it doesn't seem to matter.
I found it so believable that she left her epipen in the car. Why would she think she would ever need it with the ENTIRE medical bay at her disposal?
I loved this little argument. You did such a good job capturing their reactions. I could see it happening.
He is so cute when he's worried xD
Instead of yelling at her, why don't you try kissing her Action Man? Might be more effective ;D
deinonychus_1 From: deinonychus_1 Date: August 23rd, 2011 07:24 pm (UTC) (Link)
thanks, glad you liked it. Of course Becker would be worried, but really, there was no reason for Jess to think it would be a security issue prior to the freak set of circumstances that occured on this one occasion.

And yes, he really needs to actually admit *why* he's so worried, instead of hiding behind 'security stuff' all the time.

Awww. *giggles a bit* Poor Becker. Hehehehehe I like. :-D
deinonychus_1 From: deinonychus_1 Date: August 23rd, 2011 07:25 pm (UTC) (Link)
hee, thanks. I don't think he was expecting Jess to shout back at him, poor bloke. But then, if he wasn't so emotionally inept then maybe she wouldn't have to shout at him...

Points on both sides - will Becker need to produce more chocolate to make amends?

deinonychus_1 From: deinonychus_1 Date: August 23rd, 2011 07:27 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, chocolate might be one way to make her stop glaring at him like that!
nietie From: nietie Date: August 23rd, 2011 12:56 pm (UTC) (Link)
Bless them both. Becker is right, but he needs to lighten up a bit too.
deinonychus_1 From: deinonychus_1 Date: August 23rd, 2011 07:29 pm (UTC) (Link)
hee, definitely. He's just far too emotionally inept to admit the truth, so he hides behind 'security stuff' instead, silly man *thwaps Becker*.
telperion_15 From: telperion_15 Date: August 24th, 2011 03:20 pm (UTC) (Link)
Oh Becker, just tell her!

I'm simulataneously exasperated that Jess left her kit in the car, and that the ARC's medical staff (whoever they are!) were incompetent enough to run out of adrenaline!
deinonychus_1 From: deinonychus_1 Date: August 24th, 2011 07:06 pm (UTC) (Link)
hee, thanks. I think hell may freeze over before Becker admits how he feels! *thwaps him*

Yes, bit of a medical!fail by all concerned, really. Matt Rees would never have let such a thing happen :-)
lsellersfic From: lsellersfic Date: August 25th, 2011 02:38 pm (UTC) (Link)
Oooh! Definitely well observed with rights and wrongs on both sides.

And "security stuff" made me giggle!
deinonychus_1 From: deinonychus_1 Date: August 25th, 2011 06:36 pm (UTC) (Link)
thanks. They do both have valid points, unfortunately, Becker just completely misjudged how to approach the subject! And I couldn't resist the 'security stuff' line.
