drabble: The Right Thing?

Written for the Primeval100 drabble challenge 202 - Loyalty. Looks like there's been some degree of brainshare for this prompt already, but I decided to go ahead and write it anyway.

Title: The Right Thing?
Author: Athene
Fandom: Primeval
Characters: Connor, Philip
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Spoilers: 4.7,
Challenge: Loyalty
Word count: 100
Disclaimer: Not mine. ITV and Impossible Pictures own them.

“We’re doing the right thing, aren’t we?” Connor asked eventually.

            “Of course.”

Philip smiled, but Connor finally realised that it wasn’t real. Nothing more than a PR smile.

Then why can’t we tell the others? He didn’t dare voice the question that yet again demanded attention. He didn’t want to examine the possibility that there was something very wrong here.

Besides, who would even listen to him now? He could imagine Abby’s ‘I told you so’ expression. Lester’s anger. Becker’s disappointment.

            Need to talk

The text took seconds to type. Connor’s thumb hovered over the ‘send’ button for far longer.
