fanfic: 'Following Orders' and 'Arachnophobia'

Two drabbles for the Primeval 100 'Ryan' challenge. And see... I am entirely capable of writing drabbles that don't have Connor in them. I was starting to worry that he kept appearing, regardless of who the drabble was supposed to be about.

Title: Following Orders

Author: Athene

Fandom: Primeval

Characters: Ryan, Cutter

Rating: PG

Warnings: none

Spoilers: Episode 1.

Challenge: Primeval 100 ‘Ryan’ challenge

Disclaimer: Not mine. ITV and Impossible Pictures own them.

AN. Takes place towards the end of episode 1, still in the forest.

Ryan was clearing up after the gorgonopsid rampage when Cutter came to find him. His apology for his stubborn behaviour in the Permian was succinct, and faintly embarrassed.

Ryan just nodded. If Cutter wanted an apology about the concussion, he was going to be disappointed.

“One question.” Cutter hesitated. “If I hadn’t seen sense, would you really have stayed?”

            “I wasn’t leaving without you.”

It was an ambiguous answer, and they both knew it.

            “Well, thanks, Captain Ryan.”

            “You too, Professor.”

Ryan smiled, relieved that Cutter didn’t know how close he had come to getting himself knocked unconscious twice in one day.

Title: Arachnophobia

Author: Athene

Fandom: Primeval

Characters: Ryan

Rating: 12

Warnings: swearing

Spoilers: Episode 2

Challenge: Primeval 100 ‘Ryan’ challenge

Disclaimer: Not mine. ITV and Impossible Pictures own them.

AN. Takes place during the Special Forces scene in the underground.

He’s not arachnophobic. He’s not. And even if he was, he wouldn’t admit it. Certainly not to his men. Certainly not right now.

            Ryan looks up, and freezes.

Spiders. Fucking enormous spiders. The green of the night vision only makes them look more alien and sinister.

Suddenly they are dropping, and instinct and training and adrenaline kick in, and he doesn’t have time to think about how horrible and creepy and bloody big they are. Not until after he’s given the order to pull out.

            He’s not arachnophobic.

Although he has a disturbing suspicion that might be about to change.
