drabble: Nature's Fury

written for the Primeval_100 challenge 152 - Thunder and Lightning

Title: Nature’s Fury
Author: Athene
Fandom: Primeval
Characters: Helen
Rating: PG
Warnings: none
Spoilers: none
Challenge: Thunder and Lightning
Word count: 100
Disclaimer: Not mine. ITV and Impossible Pictures own them.

The thunder was almost constant, every crash echoing back from the far side of the valley until it was impossible to distinguish one from the next. Staccato flashes of lightning only served to illuminate the torrential cascade of rain that had turned the hillsides into waterfalls, and the valley bottom to a white-water river.

A lone figure stood beneath a rocky overhang as nature’s fury raged around her. Water streamed down her face, the droplets sliding around the curve of a triumphant smile.

This was nature at its most primal, savage, elemental level.

Just the way Helen Cutter liked it.

Great description in such few words! I really admire drabble writers, I've tried and I just can't do it.

This sounds like a great intro for a longer fic though ;)

thanks. I'd had this idea all week since I saw the challenge, but it's taken me this long to actually sit down and write it.

I think Helen would love sights like that when she's on her travels in the past.

Beautifully painted! And I can definitely see Helen identifying with the furious elements of Nature.

glad you liked. It was one of those drabbles that actually said pretty much exactly what I wanted it to say on the first draft, so yey!

Great descriptions, and just so Helen to enjoy nature like that.

thanks. Helen does have an interesting view on what parts of nature might constitute 'enjoyable'.

Hee, thanks. I did wonder if you were away on holiday for easter, I hadn't seen you online very much recently. Hope you and the family are having a good time.

Thanks! Yes, having a very good time, but much, much busier than I thought we'd be, but never mind *g*
Ice skating this morning, I think, LOL.
Hope you had good holidays, too.
