fanfic: 'Running' and 'Necessary'

Okay, so Five Days: part 4 isn't ready yet, but it felt wrong to let the weekend go by without posting fic of some kind. So here's a couple of Ryan-centric drabbles, for anyone who needs their Special Forces fix.

Title: Running
Author: Athene
Fandom: Primeval
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Not mine. ITV and Impossible Pictures own them.
Word count: approx 100

Ryan has been running all day. So many creatures to chase, so much forest to cover. They’ve finally finished rounding up the prehistoric meerkat things, but he still has a nagging suspicion about the apparent lack of predators.

“You’re paranoid,” Cutter laughs, but the look on Stephen’s face says otherwise.

They are herding the last one back through the anomaly when they hear a yell from Connor. Ryan gets a horrible sinking feeling as he realises he’s let the kid wander off out of sight. Abruptly the yell becomes a scream, and Ryan is running again.

Title: Necessary
Author: Athene
Fandom: Primeval
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Not mine. ITV and Impossible Pictures own them.
Word count: approx 100

            “You killed it,” Cutter shouts.

            “It was necessary.”

The creature lies between them, a bloodied accusation.

            “It’s a herbivore. It wasn’t a threat.”

Tell that to your team-mates, Ryan thinks as Cutter storms off in a blur of gestures and expletives. But he says nothing. It’s not his place.

“Thank you,” Abby says guiltily. “Sorry I couldn’t get out of its way fast enough. I’ll explain to Cutter.” She follows the swearing.

Connor is the only one who stays to help clear up. He doesn’t say anything, but the look on his face is confirmation, if any were needed, that Ryan made the right choice.
