AN: Another drabble about Becker’s past. At some point I will gather them all together and give them a tag, because there’s so many of them now!
Becker’s father had very definite ideas about what sort of man an officer ought to be. Birthday gifts to his son often included books about great generals, kings and war leaders from history, the world’s greatest tactical and strategic minds.
On his first tour of Afghanistan, Becker saw Private Jones, a man apparently educated on the backstreets of a Bradford council estate, pull two soldiers and five civilians from a burning building, risking his own life again and again to go back in for more.
On that day, Becker finally learned what sort of soldier he really wanted to be.
