Lol, don't suppose you've got the link for that interview, have you?

Not saving Cutter was definitely one of Becker's worst failures. Of course it needed to happen for the plot, and it was more dramatically appropriate for Connor to be with him at the end, but it would have looked better for Becker if they could have found a genuine reason for him to not be there at that moment, such as having him injured, or obviously dealing with something else.

I'll check the article sometime tomorrow, but I think it was 'Bite Club' by Richard Edwards in SFX magazine. I haven't had it scanned yet to post up on LJ, but someone else might have put it up somewhere or have it in hard copy.

I did a quick net search and there are excerpts of the article here but not with Ben. It does give more details about the mag, which might help you find it on Google.

"Extracts from an article by Richard Edwards SFX magazine issue no. 181 April 2009."

I'd look through my clippings for it now, but I'm afraid I've got to head to bed. I hope it is that one!

SFX April 2009, #181, 'Bite Club' article about S3 with various people being quoted, written by Richard Edwards. At page 65, Ben Mansfield is asked four questions. Here are two:
Q. Did you do much army training for the role?
A. I went to the armoury for the day and learned how to pull the guns apart and put them back together again with my eyes shut, and I got to fire the gun that Heath Ledger fired in 'The Dark Knight'. But I wasn't sent off to an Oliver Stone-type boot camp or anything.

Q. Has playing a soldier changed the way you behave in real life?
A. I was in a shop the other day and a guy ran out with some stuff and I almost tried to intervene. Then I thought, "What are you doing? Let him go! You went to drama school and wore tights for three years!" I automatically reached for my sidearm but it wasn't there!

*nods emphatically re your 'not saving Cutter' points*
