This is a really good episode for Abby in a lot of ways, I think, despite all the supposed 'damsel in distress' stuff. And yes, you can say it's sexist to have the female being the one being rescued, but at the same time, can you imagine Abby being able to hold Connor with one hand over a cliff? Abby, though she's strong and can fight, is still the smallest of the team. She's a capable fighter, but there's only so much she can do as small, lightweight female.

My biggest objection to the cliff scene is that she's not show reaching up much with her free hand. I think if I was in danger like that I'd grab on to anything. But you could argue that as you've said, she was pretty much at the end of her resources after hours held in the tank.

I wonder if it was part of Caroline's brief to get between Abby and Connor, or if she just played that by ear. She certainly makes no attempt to befriend Abby.

And I must admit it didn't dawn on me till after I had watched the ep that the boat could have moved to Jenny! Really, if they wanted to play it that way, they could have chucked in a line or two about the engine stalling or something, especially as it makes the soldier in the boat look a right twonk for not doing anything.

Good point about Abby not being physically strong enough to hang onto Connor if their positions were reversed. As I mentioned to T_15, only the episode before Abby had saved Cutter's life, so it's not as if it's Abby in danger *every week* and it never happens to anyone else!

I can see what you mean about her not making more of an effort to help herself in the cliff scene, though, and the only explanation I can come up with is that she's just too exhasuted by that point, and adrenaline will only get you so far.

She certainly makes no attempt to befriend Abby.

I'd say Caroline actually goes out of her way to antagonise Abby! Leek only told her to get close to Connor and find out what he knew, but it actualy makes far more sense for her to be trying to drive a wedge between them, so that the team remain split and not talking to eah other, because that means they won't put their heads to gether and work out what Leek is up to.

Honestly, I despair of that scene with Jenny in the water!

It's annoying when you think it would have taken only a little effort to make it reasonably plausible, if a bit clichéd, by having the engine cut out.

Sadly, that's a phrase that can be applied to all too many dramatic set-piece situations in Primeval!

*nods* And it's soooo annoying! I love Primeval, but I want it to be able to hold up its head against other shows, and sometimes it can't, because of silly little things like this :-(

I get that sometimes mistakes are made during production (like the weirdness with Stephen's gun in 2.01) that can't be corrected because of time or budget reasons. But a little forethought could make so much difference. Just a couple of throwaway lines of dialogue...
