Connor gathered more wood as twilight crept across the Triassic landscape. He had made the mistake of letting the fire go out once; he had no intention of doing it again.

The soldier’s body was attracting predators, but Connor wasn’t willing to abandon Corporal Jones to the scavengers. It was Jones who had shown him how to build the fire in the first place.

As darkness fell Connor poked the embers, watching the treeline warily. The predators were getting bolder every night. Connor didn’t want to think about what would happen when they were no longer afraid of his fire.

Keep your fingers crossed that the anomaly re-opens before the predators get too bold.

It was either this or Connor and Rex setting the kitchen on fire! The other one may still turn up before the deadline.

Oh GOD! That is just terrible! I mean, brilliant, you know? Poor Connor! What's he going to do? Oh Jones! *weeps*
*flails a lot*

*moves out of way of flailing*

Poor Connor had a broken arm in the first draft as well, but I ran out of word count and had to edit that bit out!

Poor Connor! What's he going to do?

He's a smart lad, I'm sure he'll think of something. He's probably taken Jones's gun, at least. Which might work if the predator isn't too big. or if there aren't too many of them...

Eek! And now I want to know what happens next!

*looks shifty* I spent most of this morning at work thinking through a much longer version of this story. I'm not promising anything, but I like the idea and might see what I can do with it.

eep.. poor Connor.. and poor Jones.

I can really see Connor not wanting to abandon the body, even if it was a soldier he didn't know very well, and even thought he knows that it's just attracting more danger.

Oh no. Poor Connor. *keeps creatures away with her magic pen*

Bless Connor's gallant little heart. He's so loyal and brave. But he'll think of a way out, won't he? *looks hopeful* :-)
deinonychus_1 From: deinonychus_1 Date: March 24th, 2009 08:11 am (UTC) (Link)
He's pinning all his hopes on the anomaly reopening and his mates turning up with a rescue party so they can take Jones's body back as well. As ususal, his tactics are a triumph of hope over practicality.

Scary and dark but I loved it!

Glad you liked it. Scary and dark is good, especially where poor little Connor is concerned.

Eeep! Poor Connor! Poor Redshirt! Great sense of desperation on hopelessness
deinonychus_1 From: deinonychus_1 Date: March 24th, 2009 08:16 am (UTC) (Link)
Thanks, glad you liked. Heehee to the redshirt comment. I very nearly used an established OC, but decided I didn't fancy killing any of them off (and was scared of an angry mob coming to get me!).
slashybits From: slashybits Date: March 24th, 2009 08:54 am (UTC) (Link)
Mob! With torches and pitchforks I'd say. And depending on the OC, additional torture implements *g* It's always safer to use a redshirt ;)

Oh no poor Connor!

The soldier’s body was attracting predators, but Connor wasn’t willing to abandon Corporal Jones to the scavengers.

That's exactly how I expect Connor to be -loyal to the end. This is a brillant drabble!
deinonychus_1 From: deinonychus_1 Date: May 27th, 2009 07:13 am (UTC) (Link)
Sometimes Connor has an overdevloped sense of bravery, it's going to get him into trouble. But he just wouldn't abandon anyone in that situation, no matter how dangerous.
